The
Design of Playtop®
Playtop®
is a continuous, porous material made from rubber granules and polyurethane
binders. It is mixed and laid on site as a wet-pour product.
It is immensely strong and durable, retaining its life-saving deformation
properties over many years of the hardest use children can give
it.
Playtop®
consists of two layers: a base layer of coarse (20 mm mesh) black
granules made from recycled tyre rubber, and a coloured top layer
of much finer EPDM rubber granules. These are intimately interlocked
to give the surface its strength.
It
was Charles Lawrence who discovered that the rubber used in truck
tyres has ideal mechanical properties for play surfacing, and can
be recovered from scrap tyres at remarkably low cost.
Now
the Group’s own tyre recycling plant ensures the availability of
clean, sharply cut rubber granules in the desired sizes, quantities
and quality. With this inexpensive raw material, we can build
surfaces to the highest standards without compromising on thickness.
