PLAYTOP® GIVES KERRY McFADDEN A HELPING HAND!
When Granada Media contacted Nigel Allen, Managing Director at Playtop Limited, to see if the company would consider helping them with an episode of the ITV1 ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ programme, he was more than happy to oblige. Nigel commented: “After seeing the first series back in January, I was delighted to be asked if Playtop Limited could help with such a worthwhile challenge.”
The project was at one of Europe’s largest children’s hospitals, Alder Hey in Liverpool. The only playground at the hospital was being removed, as it didn’t meet current health and safety regulations. This meant that the 200,000 children treated at the hospital each year, many of whom are being treated for long-term illnesses and spend a lot of time within the grounds, would have no outside play area to visit.
At the heart of each ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ programme is a fundamental aim – to change the lives of a group of people who really need help. To this end a new play area was planned that would once again enable the children to interact with others at the hospital in a safe and exciting environment. A total of 307m2 of Playtop® impact-absorbing surfacing was laid in a variety of colours ranging from blends of green and black, red and orange, eggshell and turquoise and beige and grey. The safety surfacing was laid beneath the various play equipment, also supplied for the project by Kompan Ltd, to ensure the children would remain safe whilst at play.
