PLAYTOP® IS CHOSEN FOR BUCKINGHAM PALACE, LONDON EYE AND SACRE COEUR CATHEDRAL
Having been installed across Italy and Belgium, 180 m2 of Playtop® has now been laid outside Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Sacre Coeur Cathedral – thanks to LEGOLAND®! The Windsor attraction is the latest theme park to commission Playtop Limited to install its impact absorbing surfacing – this time, in its Miniland area.
Around 35 million LEGO® bricks have been used to create Miniland with its scenes from Europe, including London, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Paris, all bustling with sounds, traffic, trains and boats. It is a masterpiece of the art of LEGO® model making and took 100 model makers three years to complete.
Paul Richards, head of facilities at LEGOLAND® Windsor commented: “We initially chose Playtop® as our preferred choice of surfacing for Miniland after seeing how it could integrate different colours and designs into the surface. The aim was to obtain a surface that was not only practical but also eye catching and fitted in with the models surrounding it. I feel this has certainly been achieved and we are over the moon with the results and service we received from Playtop®.”
In the past, gravel and shale has been used to create the roadways in Miniland. This is now being replaced with Playtop®. The surface includes recharging pads and magnetic strips that have been built in so that LEGO® model vehicles can be moved along smoothly.
